Why get married in Denmark?

A lot of people know that Denmark is a perfect destiny to getting married. But the question is why is the reason? The answer is simply: Is easier than other countries!

We tell you more about the benefits in this section.

Benefits

We recompiled a little list with the principal benefits to getting married in Denmark.

  • Getting married with a tourist visa
  • Birth certificate is not necessary.
  • Single status certificate and no impediment are not necessary too.
  • The time of process with the authorities is very short.

You do not need lawyers.

Special certificates

One of the most incredibly good point that Denmark has is that you do not need birth certificate and single status or no impediment certificate.
We know that these documents sometimes cause a lot of problems for people who have decided to get married. It may be difficult to find them in a short time, or the process of obtaining them may be very bureaucratic.
Denmark gives you peace of mind and you can forget all about having to spend time on and submitting these impossible documents.
Relax and just enjoy your wedding process!

The need for a lawyer

As mentioned above, you do not need a lawyer.
You can apply to the Danish authorities yourself, but we strongly recommend that you use a wedding agency. If you decide to use a family lawyer, the experience might be different.
This is not only because the family lawyer could be expensive but also because they do not offer the same experience as the wedding agencies.
Wedding agencies have knowledgeable and caring staff who will give you an amazing experience when you decide to organise your fantastic wedding day.

Tourist visa

As mentioned above, you do not need a special visa to get married in Denmark.
A large number of people who decide to come to Denmark and get married there do so on a tourist visa, just in case the visa is required.

Duration of process

Many countries, both within and outside the EU, have a lengthy and difficult process for checking and confirming marriage applications. This is even worse if one or both of the parties are not citizens of the country in which they wish to apply.

For this reason, Denmark is the place that people choose as an alternative. Although the process in Denmark could be bureaucratic because you have to apply to the Danish government and everything is strict there, you have the help of the Agency of Family Law which works like an intermediary between you and the government.
Since 2019, the Family Law Agency has been working to prevent sham or pro forma marriages by rigorously checking each application. They are available to answer the application within 5 working days, but it is important to get the application in the correct form the first time, as this means the process can be very quick.
You do not have to worry about agency checks, if your documents are in order and you are a real couple, there will be no problem!

Disadvantages

From here we have explained the advantages of getting married in Denmark, but as in life, not everything is perfect. We think it is honest to also mention the disadvantages of getting married in Denmark.

Below is a list of what we consider to be disadvantages.

  • Denmark could be expensive
  • The weather could be difficult
  • Difficult to find a place to get married in the famous City Hall

Cost in Denmark

We believe that the most likely disadvantage of Denmark is that it is more expensive than other places. This is because the taxes are high, and this is reflected in the price of services, food, hotels, shops, and everything else in relation to normal life.
Of course, not everything is terrible. Denmark offers the tourist the possibility to find alternatives according to different budget, bringing the possibility to make a comfortable stay and enjoy the multiple attractions that there are.

Weather

It is well known that Denmark is very cold in winter, and the sun does not usually shine. That is why people prefer to visit in spring and summer. However, if you do not have any problems with the coldest days, it is a perfect season to get married there, because the town hall is emptier than in other times.
Our experience tells us that getting married in the coldest seasons can be very romantic. Just imagine how beautiful a snowy day is and how incredible the experience could be, enjoying the amazing silence of the snow.
All you need to do is dress appropriately to enjoy the weather and be ready to taste incredible Danish cookies with a hot cup of coffee or chocolate.

Famous city hall

Denmark offers people who want to get married many places to do it, called town halls. Each town hall offers a completely different experience, some are private, others are available to celebrate weddings every day, some are very popular because of their buildings or probably because the location is in a tourist point.
Each parties have different preferences to live the wedding experience, but from our experience we know that most of the couples desire to get married in Copenhagen City Hall. This is a famous place due to it amazing and oldest building and the ubication is in the city centre.
For this reason, you have to wait about two months to get an appointment because there is so much demand.
But you do not have to despair! as we have said before, there is another beautiful alternative in Denmark, and even you can plan your wedding in a time of the year that is less busy.
