Our Basic Service is designed to guide couples through the marriage application process in Denmark with ease. This package ensures you are fully prepared with the correct documentation, understand the steps involved, and receive essential support on your wedding day. Unlike our more comprehensive packages, the Basic Service does not include extras like photographers or post-wedding formalities, making it perfect for couples who prefer a straightforward approach.

Comprehensive Documentation List

The foundation of a successful marriage application is having the right documents. Our Basic Service includes a tailored checklist of all necessary paperwork, customized to your situation. Whether you’re an international, EU, or mixed-nationality couple, we provide clear instructions for gathering key documents such as:

  • Valid passports or national ID cards.
  • Proof of marital status (single, divorced, or widowed).
  • Residency permits (if applicable).

€255 Application Fee Not Included

Please note that the €255 application fee required by the Danish Agency of Family Law (AFL) is not included in the Basic Service package. This fee must be paid directly to the Danish authorities during the application process. While the payment is separate, we provide full guidance on how and when to make the payment to ensure the process is completed correctly.

The marriage application process in Denmark is known for its efficiency. If you submit all required documents accurately and meet the necessary conditions, the Danish Agency of Family Law (Familieretshuset) typically issues a Certificate of Marital Status within five working days.

However, if additional information is needed, the processing time may extend. In such cases, it can take up to seven months to receive further communication after providing the requested details.

To ensure a smooth and timely process, it’s crucial to submit a complete and accurate application. This includes providing all necessary documentation and promptly responding to any requests for additional information.

The Danish wedding ceremony is short. A city hall wedding will last around ten minutes. Usually, there are some words spoken by the registrar, maybe a poem, then the legal vows are exchanged (you can write your own vows too), followed by the signing of your marriage license. All locations have beautiful ceremony rooms where the wedding will take place.

You cannot change your name in Denmark (unless you are Danish). But changing your name and registering your wedding should be straightforward when you return to your home country. Check with the office of “Births, Deaths, and Marriages” or with your embassy if you live outside of your home country.

It is a legal requirement that two witnesses attend every wedding ceremony in Denmark, these can be family or friends, or they can be arranged by the city hall. In Denmark, witnesses are always organized for you if you need them in any City Hall for a weekday ceremony – there is no extra charge for witnesses on a weekday.

Some City Halls will require you to bring one or two witnesses for a wedding on weekends.
